Your Opportunity Under the limited supervision of the Dean, Arts and Foundational Programs, recruits, screens, and matches literacy tutors; assists the Adult Literacy/Fundamental instructor in providing initial training and on-going workshops for tutors; administers initial intake procedure; monitors matches; maintains statistical records; and performs other related duties as required.
Functions and Duties 1. Recruits and screens potential literacy tutors by:
2. Assists the Adult Literacy/Fundamental Instructor with the logistical details related to
initial training sessions and on going workshops by:
3. Responds to initial telephone inquiries from potential learners and tutors.
4. Assists the Adult Literacy/Fundamental Instructor to administer intake procedures. This position is specifically excluded from making any interpretation relating to the
inventory.
5. Assists the Adult Literacy/Fundamental Instructor to match learners and tutors.
6. Monitors the learner/tutor pairs and refers learning problems to the Adult Literacy/Fundamental Instructor.
7. Maintains a collection of learning resources for the tutors and learners.
8. Sets up and maintains records relating to the program.
9. Keeps a record and reports training time, tutoring time, and co ordination time.
10. Promotes the program in the community
11. Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Graduation from a four-year university program in a related area, preferably in Education, English or Adult Literacy. Over 1 year and up to and including 2 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications The Department of Adult Upgrading is seeking a non-regular part-time Volunteer Literacy Tutor Program Assistant for the Community Adult Literacy Program (South Okanagan). The position will be based at the Penticton Campus but may include travel to the communities of Oliver, Osoyoos and Okanagan Falls
Desired Start Date 01/05/2026
Position End Date (if temporary) 04/30/2026
Schedule 7 hours per week (weekly schedule tba), with a 1-week break in March 2026. Note: An extension to early May is possible
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate $28.76 - $32.82
Appointment Type Support - Non-Regular Part-time

- speaking at public information meetings and service clubs;
- responding to telephone inquiries;
- interviewing potential tutors and making recommendations to the Adult

- making room reservations;
- advising the participants of the date, time and place of the program;
- ensuring the appropriate equipment is available.

- Competence and proficiency in the use of computer systems and software including
