As Director of Analytics Engineering within our Enterprise Data Analytics team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of data-driven decision-making at Charles River. We’re seeking a visionary leader with a proven track record of building high-performing teams and delivering transformative analytics solutions at scale. In this role, you’ll lead a talented group of BI and Data Analysts, guiding them to unlock insights from complex scientific and operational data that directly influence enterprise strategy. You’ll be at the forefront of expanding our analytics footprint across all business lines—driving innovation, elevating data quality, and embedding intelligence into the fabric of our operations. In This Role, Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Lead and mentor a team of Power BI Developers and Analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement;
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable Power BI solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and user needs;
  • Proven and recent experience of implementing solutions from requirements gathering and process design to functional production deployment in a cloud environment;
  • Act as Technical Product owner within assigned Agile teams;
  • Manage and optimize Microsoft Fabric capacities, including workload distribution, performance tuning, and cost management;
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate strategic objectives into actionable data insights and reporting solutions;
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data modeling, dashboard design, and analytics engineering workflows;
  • Partner with data engineering and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of data sources and infrastructure;
  • Monitor and report on analytics performance, usage metrics, and capacity utilization to inform future planning;
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in analytics and data platforms;
  • Continuously work on building strong Business relationships with the key Business Product Owners.

Key Elements

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Math, or related fields. Master’s degree is preferred;
  • 5+ years of management experience in a technology organization with a strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams;
  • 7+ years of SSAS design and development with expert DAX skills;
  • 5 + years of hands-on data visualization and report development;
  • 5 + years in utilizing Power BI and experience managing Microsoft Premium and Fabric Capacity solutions;
  • 2+ years of experience in Azure cloud Environment;
  • Strong knowledge of Azure data stack and integration architectures;
  • Highly skilled in various Agile methodologies;
  • Able to work quickly and under tight delivery deadlines with focus on details;
  • Ability to manage multiple efforts concurrently;
  • Must have strong business acumen and have the skillsets to analyze and interpret highly complex business challenges related to the use of the Global Data;
  • Experience with data science including Python (asset).

Role Specific Information

  • Location: Remote (from one of our Canadian site);
  • Annual bonus based on performance;
  • Schedule: Daytime between Monday and Friday;
  • Permanent position as of the hiring, full-time 37.5hrs per week.

About Safety Assessment

Charles River is committed to helping our partners expedite their preclinical drug development with exceptional safety assessment services, state-of-the-art facilities and expert regulatory guidance. From individual specialty toxicology and IND enabling studies to tailored packages and total laboratory support, our deeply experienced team can design and execute programs that anticipate challenges and avoid roadblocks for a smooth, efficient journey to market. Each year approximately 300 investigational new drug (IND) programs are conducted in our Safety Assessment facilities.
