Job Description:

  • While our team is based in Edmonton, we welcome candidates residing in British Columbia, Manitoba, Alberta or Saskatchewan, with the expectation of monthly in-person visits to the Edmonton office**

We are seeking a visionary, action-oriented leader to oversee the operations of our Edmonton Group Disability office. This role demands a strong operational leader who can drive innovation, make decisive decisions while delivering operational excellence.

You will play a key role in improving disability performance, enhancing client satisfaction, and building employee accountability, empowerment and engagement - while shaping a best-in-class, future-ready team.

What you will be doing:

Drive Operational Excellence and Innovation

  • Take ownership of operational performance, ensuring quality, compliance, and timeliness across all disability operations (STD, LTD, ECI)
  • Make strategic decisions to optimize team capacity while maintaining even workload distribution
  • Optimize return to work outcomes in safe, sustainable and timely ways.
  • Spearhead the modernization of our operations through digital tools, automation, and data-driven insights

Lead Strategic Transformation

  • Align the Edmonton office with Sun Life's national disability strategy through decisive action and clear communication
  • Innovate claims management, client engagement, and plan member support processes
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making skills in implementing change initiatives

Elevate Client Experience And Business Growth

  • Take proactive ownership of client relationships, working closely with Business Development to resolve issues and drive satisfaction
  • Make data-driven decisions to improve client satisfaction scores and contribute to sales efforts
  • Represent Sun Life with authority at external events, showcasing strong leadership and industry expertise

Develop High-Performing Teams and Culture

  • Build and lead a high-performing, engaged team through clear expectations, accountability, and empowerment
  • Reduce employee attrition
  • Take ownership of talent development, actively identifying and nurturing future leaders
  • Foster a culture of trust, accountability, and inclusion through personal example and decisive action

Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Leverage strong leadership skills to influence national processes and contribute effectively to the Group Disability Leadership Team
  • Demonstrate ownership in partnerships with BD, IT, HR, Risk, and Legal to achieve business goals

  • Significant improvements in claim durations and financial results
  • Measurable increase in client and advisor satisfaction scores
  • Substantial decrease in employee turnover and enhanced engagement metrics
  • Successful implementation of technology and process innovations

What you need to succeed:

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in complex, client-facing operations.
  • Strong track record of leading through change and delivering measurable business outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of disability claims management and rehabilitation practices.
  • Experience building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Strategic mindset with strong execution skills and operational discipline.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience); advanced credentials are an asset.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
