Intern, Enterprise Risk Management & Insurance

This is a full-time summer internship that takes place from May 11, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

Job Summary

The intern will support both Enterprise Risk Management and Insurance functions, with a primary focus on process improvement and change management. The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Insurance team at CN is a small, high-impact group that supports senior leadership in managing corporate risk and ensuring the company maintains the necessary insurance coverage to operate safely and effectively across North America. We collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure CN is resilient in the face of operational challenges. A particularly exciting aspect of our work is our close collaboration with senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations that inform risk mitigation strategies and insurance planning at the executive level.

Major Responsibilities

  • Analyzing current insurance and ERM processes and metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Gathering and trending performance data related to incidents (e.g., derailments) to support insurance discussions with underwriters.
  • Assisting in documenting management controls and mitigations within CN’s Risk Register.
  • Collaborating with various teams across CN to collect relevant data and insights that inform process enhancements.
  • Setting up and organizing a SharePoint site to centralize ERM & Insurance documentation, tools, and resources—making it easier for senior leadership to access key risk information and updates.

Education

  • Working towards a degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or related field
  • Any experience for these above would be considered an asset
