Job Summary The Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced urban designers, interior designers, and educators to join our team of instructors We are specifically hiring for the Junior Arts Institute, part of our Summer Teens program for 13-15 year olds, which includes:
Interior + Urban Design M-F 9:00am – 4:00pm, June 29 – July 10, 2026 This position is offered as a term-based contract for the duration of the scheduled course at an hourly pay rate of $80.68/hr. We encourage individuals with creative practices prioritizing one or more of the following interior + urban design disciplines or techniques to apply:

- Fundamentals of Interior Design (space planning)
- Basics of Urban Design (public spaces)
- Conceptual Design
- Observational drawing
- Urban Sketching
- Perspective Drawing
- Compositional strategies
- Understanding of Design Principles
- Colour Theory
- Strong drawing and visualization skills (simple layouts, drafting, mood boards etc.)
Required Qualifications We are seeking candidates offering the following skills and experience:
- Expert knowledge in interior and urban design, design principles, and drawing and visualizations skills
- Significant knowledge of various interior and urban design materials, tools, software and techniques
For our Youth + Teen Programs, we are also seeking those with:
- Experience working with youth + teens from diverse creative, cultural and educational backgrounds
- Experience using adaptive and inclusive student engagement methods
- Considerable knowledge of critique and feedback strategies
- Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus learning.
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud preferred
- Secondary and/or Post-secondary teaching experience preferred
- Experience with online education (including Moodle and Microsoft Teams)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite an asset
Preferred Qualifications Priority will be given to candidates with:
- Canadian citizenship or Permanent Residence status (at this time we are unable to hire international applicants for instructional contract roles)
- Significant experience working in industry, who are also interested in sharing their knowledge with others
- Experience working with learners from diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds at the secondary level; prior experience with mentorship or training also considered an asset
- Experience developing lesson plans; prior experience developing internal training modules or leading workshops also considered an asset
