GENERAL DESCRIPTION
:
The Victim Services Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing Victim Services programs for assigned clientele. Primary responsibilities of this position include:
Administration:
Manages the administrative functions of the department to ensure maintenance and accuracy of records, databases, documents, and statistical reports. Reviews budget and expenditure information for accuracy, processes charges, and tracks costs. Organizes activities for other related programs and special projects as required
Departmental Support:
Assists with research and development of department initiatives and programs. Analyzes department goals and objectives and ensures tasks are aligned, meeting service levels in providing victim support. Responds to enquiries, assists with service delivery, and maintains best practices. Provides support and guidance to staff working with victims of Crime Act, the Victims of Crime Protocol, and the Criminal Justice system. Collaborates with team members and/or stakeholders to ensure accuracy in referrals and case management. Case manages, monitors, reviews, and gives guidance to staff and advocates on all files. Assists the supervisor in ensuring the team is managed fairly and consistently and workload is balanced, schedules shifts and monitors overtime. Assists the supervisor in initiating and coordinating responses to unusual or critical situations as required. Regular travel throughout the Municipality to rural communities is expected
Departmental Coordination:
Manages complex issues that may include political consideration. Supports organizations, communities, and boards to access resources and expertise to promote organizational capacity building and advocate on behalf of the victims. Participates in the continuous research, development, improvement and implementation of effective departmental strategies, tools and guidelines based on the Municipality best practice and in accordance with the Solicitor Generals’ Office. Conducts community consultation/engagement and maintains partnerships. Organizes and promotes volunteer recruitment for advocate positions. Collaborates and provides input/feedback on various community boards and committees. Coordinates meetings and education sessions where applicable. May participate in the administration of the Emergency Social Services community response
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding and knowledge of victim advocacy, community resources, programs, and services
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • High emotional intelligence including the ability to deal effectively with ambiguity, remain calm and neutral in highly emotional or conflict situations.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving, mediation, crisis intervention, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to be discreet, keep all information and documentation strictly confidential, and respect sensitivity of issues and privacy of clients in diverse environments.
  • Ability to effectively interact with internal and external clients and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Organize workload, set priorities, and work within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to analyze information from various sources, identifying issues and identifying problems.
  • Must be able to perform in a fast-paced project environment.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative without being prompted.
  • Detailed understanding of RCMP operational process and procedures, corporate policies and direction is an asset.

EDUCATION:

  • Diploma in Social Services (Social Work, Childhood Development, or Family Services) or another related discipline.
  • Victim Services Training will be provided upon hire.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5) years of experience in a community and/or social services role, including experience working with volunteers and volunteer recruitment.
  • Experience working in a public sector environment considered an asset.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to acquire and maintain an RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance is required.
  • A valid Class Five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
