  • Take on a strategic role in the Canadian Infrastructure Sector team. The Infrastructure Sector includes clients involved in the planning, design, construction and operation of infrastructure including roads, rail, ports, airports, solid waste, water, wastewater, and other public infrastructure.
  • Take on responsibility for infrastructure sector growth and strategy in Western Canada, and specifically British Columbia.
  • Leveraging SLR’s current client base, as well as your own client base and business contacts, develop a business strategy to expand SLR’s presence in the market.

As our new Infrastructure Sub-Sector Lead (Western Canada), you will take on a challenging and diverse role focused on building strong relationships within our existing client base, building the business and positioning SLR for the future in the evolving landscape of infrastructure advancements and investment. Clients of interest include provincial and municipal governments (e.g., BC Ministry of Transportation and Transit, Metro Vancouver), ports (e.g., Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, Port of Victoria), rail (e.g., CN, CP), airports (e.g., Vancouver International Airport), and the construction and engineering firms that service these client groups. Working under the guidance of our National Sector Lead, you’ll coordinate the needs of diverse clients with SLR service offerings, aligning both towards common goals focused on business growth and client value.

This role operates at the intersection of business development and technical expertise, which is why you’ll need to excel at relationship building and program management. Ideally, you’ll bring significant experience on both the consultant and client sides of the equation, with proven strategies for developing new business opportunities and deep knowledge of the challenges faced by existing and emerging clients in the infrastructure marketplace.

Here are some of the things you’ll be working on day-to-day:

  • Lead our infrastructure sector in western Canada by developing and implementing strategies to expand our services while enhancing our marketplace presence and client portfolio.
  • Support key proposals and contribute to the development and implementation of service line, business sector, and client business development plans.
  • Identify trends and create a long-term strategy that positions SLR with key clients and key portions of the market, providing for sustainable growth.
  • Establish a client management team for key target clients and work to help them grow and build their client management skills.
  • Work with our Technical Disciplines to identify skills gaps, and actively mentor, build, and recruit those technical skills to fulfill our growth plan.
  • Champion an integrated services approach, driving growth opportunities for the full suite of SLR services.
  • Develop strategic partnerships and strong working relationships with industry leaders, as well as stakeholders across SLR.
  • Survey client needs, developing a detailed understanding of project objectives, scope, and ideal outcomes.
  • Be a resource for clients as the primary contact on key issues, providing perspective and feedback to SLR delivery teams.
  • Generate ongoing strategies for improving client satisfaction and sector growth.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and market issues, providing reports, analysis, and recommendations where relevant.
  • Lead teams and facilitate successful program and project delivery with respect to health & safety, scope, schedule, budget, QA/QC and client satisfaction.

  • The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience as an environmental consultant in the environmental services and infrastructure sector.
  • Deep knowledge of infrastructure sector required, with significant client network.
  • Experience building and implementing a business growth strategy, project management delivery.
  • Broad and extensive knowledge of a variety of technical disciplines, such as ecology, acoustics/vibration, air quality, construction monitoring, stakeholder engagement, climate resiliency planning, contaminated sites, environmental permitting, environmental health and safety, and other disciplines associated with infrastructure development.
  • Working knowledge of federal, provincial, municipal, and industry specific regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience in the management of multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness to travel, as needed, to participate in leadership events, conferences, and client meetings.
