Purpose of the Position

Under the direction of the Service Technician Supervisor, the Service Technician performs in-house diagnostics, repairs, and calibrations on audiology and diagnostic equipment. This role ensures all servicing activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Diatec’s quality standards.

As a key member of the bench team, the Service Technician demonstrates autonomy, curiosity, and a strong willingness to develop their technical knowledge. The role actively contributes to maintaining high service quality, supporting customer satisfaction, and ensuring equipment reliability for clinics and partners.

Work Hours: 40 hours per week

Responsibilities

Technical Servicing

  • Perform diagnostics, repairs, and calibrations on audiology and diagnostic equipment following SOPs and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Conduct pre- and post-repair functional testing to ensure equipment meets performance and quality standards.
  • Use tools, test equipment, and calibration devices correctly, ensuring consistent accuracy and quality.
  • Utilize hand-soldering techniques to assemble, repair, and rework PCB components in accordance with IPC standards.
  • Perform precision soldering on components, surface-mount devices, and through-hole assemblies as required for equipment repairs.
  • Maintain loaner and demo units in proper working condition.
  • Document all servicing activities, calibration results, serial numbers, replaced components, and repair steps accurately in the designated system.
  • Identify recurring issues and communicate observations to the Service Technician Supervisor.
  • Perform basic software installations, firmware updates, and device configurations required for diagnostics and repair.


Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Keep the bench area organized, safe, and fully compliant with workplace safety standards.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety, manufacturer, and regulatory guidelines relevant to diagnostic equipment servicing.
  • Monitor spare parts and consumables and report low stock when needed.
  • Stay curious and proactive in learning new repair techniques, software updates, and equipment technologies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues by providing clear technical clarification regarding repair results, equipment condition, and required follow-up actions.
  • Compile technical information when communicating with suppliers or manufacturers regarding complex repairs.
  • Contribute ideas to improve servicing procedures and overall workflow efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or training in electronics, biomedical engineering, mechanical/electrical technology, or a similar technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience in technical repair, calibration, or diagnostics (medical equipment experience is an asset).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • High level of autonomy with the ability to manage workload and maintain focus on detailed repairs.
  • Curiosity and a strong desire to expand technical knowledge and learn new technologies.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and servicing tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using general software tools; experience with Salesforce or service management systems is an asset.
  • Commitment to safety, SOP compliance, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English (spoken and written) is an asset.
