Position Overview The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City The Office of the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer is looking for a regular, full time Communications Specialist to join its team with a focus on parks and infrastructure-related projects. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, this role sits within the Civic Engagement and Communications Division and is part of a strong, service-driven team where each day presents fresh challenges and opportunities to tangibly impact the lives of City of North Vancouver’s residents, businesses, partners and visitors
Responsibilities The Communications Specialist provides end-to-end communications services that support the City’s strategic and annual plans, as well as emerging operational issues and initiatives. The position works closely with subject matter experts to ensure information is accurate, timely and supports business objectives. The Specialist supports the City by: developing and implementing communications strategies; providing on-going communications advice and support for campaigns, events, and other initiatives as needed; supervising or executing the creation of various communications tools to inform the public about key initiatives, their expected impacts and opportunities for public involvement; liaising with the media and responding to emerging issues, as needed; developing; creating and managing the development of a wide range of written materials, including news releases, backgrounders, presentations, social media storytelling and digital content; and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication campaigns and activities in terms of meeting corporate objectives
Requirements Qualifications and Experience
Compensation $46.07 to $54.44 per hour (Pay Grade 26 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every three-week scheduling cycle

Requirements Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline, plus considerable related experience within a government or public sector organization, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic communications planning, including the ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences.
- Proven ability in establishing and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying and managing reputational and operational issues and handling confidential information.
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing demands.
- Demonstrated experience supporting equity-deserving communities is essential.
