CARETAKER – Our Lady of the Assumption School
This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our page.
We are looking to hire a continuous 20.0 hour per week Caretaker with the initial assignment at Our Lady of the Assumption School in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence as soon as possible. The successful candidate must be able to work weekday afternoons, evenings, and days as assigned. This position is covered by the CUPE 1825 Maintenance and Custodial collective agreement.
The Individual

The Caretaker is responsible for providing and maintaining a safe and clean environment for their assigned school and its community. The Caretaker is supervised and trained by the Head Caretaker at their assigned school, and is assessed for performance by the Head Caretaker, Principal and Caretaking Supervisor. The Caretaker demonstrates a strong working knowledge of cleaning and general maintenance and must be able to complete all work tasks to a high degree of satisfaction. The nature of the work may require strenuous physical effort to complete all duties alongside maintenance team members.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma;
- ABSA Class 5 Power Engineer or above will be considered an asset;
- First Aid certificate;
- WHMIS certificate;
- Hydraulic Ladder Training (Mobile Aerial Work Platform);
- Confined Space Entry and Rescue Training;
- Fall Protection Training;
- Ladder Safety Training.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum 1 year experience as a Caretaker.
TECHNICAL SKILLS (basic knowledge of):
- Effective computer skills (email, work orders);
- Commercial cleaning equipment and chemicals;
- Fire extinguisher use.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Effective communication skills;
- Mechanical aptitude;
- Good self-directed initiative;
- Takes charge of assigned tasks;
- Responds well to supervision.
The starting rate for this position is $24.89 per hour. Holy Spirit Catholic School Division offers a 100% employer paid comprehensive benefit package, supporting the wellness of our employees and meeting the needs of their families.
