The Department of Justice is seekling a qualified candidate for the role of Strategic Initiatives Coordinator .

Duties:
The Strategic Initiatives Coordinator (SIC) would review, assess and update program policies and procedures to ensure the needs of victims of crime in Manitoba continue to be met. The incumbent would ensure that the Compensation for Victims of Crime Program and Victims’ Bill of Rights is modernized and ensure it aligns with the needs of MMIWG2S families, better protect victims of human trafficking and exploitation and support expanded services for victims in rural and remote areas and provide support for 2SLGBTQIA+ people who are disproportionately impacted by violent crime.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Post-secondary degree, preferably at the master’s level in social sciences, public or business administration or other related discipline and extensive related work experience in management, or equivalent role.
  • Experience leading victim services in operational and administrative functions in a provincial victim services program.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple competing priorities within a dynamic and time-sensitive environment.
  • Experience in representing victim services programs and government on matters of policy or operations in inter-departmental, inter-agency, inter-governmental and public forums.
  • Work experience in conducting analysis, research, and implementation in relation to policy development.
  • Strong written communication skills to produce various authority-seeking documents such as correspondence, briefing materials, treasury board submissions, cabinet submissions, media and public enquiries.
  • Excellent verbal skills to effectively communicate/present complex information to a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policy, regulations and/or legislation.
  • Strong proficiency of the Prosecutions and Scheduling Management System (PRISM) and/or Child and Family Services Information System (CFSIS), including knowledge or experience with producing reports, and correspondence by using the application.
  • Strong knowledge of the factors that impact crime trends and victimization throughout Manitoba, including the complex impacts of trauma on victims of crime.

Desired:
  • Knowledge of Indigenous histories and perspectives including an understanding of the effects of colonization, cultural differences and systemic barriers that impact access to justice (e.g. poverty, mental health, geographic location, and education).

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to clear an Enhanced Security Check.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Must be able to provide and maintain a satisfactory Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Class 5F Manitoba Driver's license with access to a personal vehicle.
  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations within the province by various means including small aircraft, often on short notice.
  • Must be willing and able to stay overnight in various and sometimes remote locations throughout the province.
