Correctional Services contributes to the protection of society by administering sentences imposed by the courts and working with community agencies, provincial government departments and other levels of government to support interventions to reduce recidivism. Community Corrections Workers provide supervision and support to young persons and adult offenders under court ordered supervision.

Duties:
Community Corrections Worker assist Probation Officers by providing complimentary, community-based, correctional services to young persons and/or adult offenders within the case management delivery model. Duties range from administrative tasks to program supervision and direct client-based work with a focus on the provision of supervision and support related to compliance management. On a routine basis, this position deals with crisis situations, problem solving, supporting case plans and reporting to Probation Officers on young person and/or adult offender progress. The incumbent will work closely with young persons, adult offenders, their families, case managers, correctional staff and relevant community and government agencies.

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Directly related experience working with vulnerable or at risk youth or adults in a supportive or supervisory role
  • Effective problem solving and decision making skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Effective verbal communication skills
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Experience working independently with minimal supervision
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Proficiency in the use of various Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook) or equivalent applications
Desired:
  • Post secondary education in the Social Sciences field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and history
  • The ability to build and sustain professional relationships with at risk youth and adults
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources to support identified intervention plans
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Satisfactory Enhanced Security Screening
  • Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check
  • Ability to travel by air or ground and access to a vehicle for work purposes
  • Valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's licence
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including up to one weekend per month (8:00 am-11:00 pm)
