Schedule: 80 hours bi-weekly; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

This position works in the Paintshop organizational unit. This is skilled painting at the journeyperson level involving the application of fundamental trade practices to a variety of painting tasks of some complexity such as performing brush and spray painting on a variety of wood and metal surfaces using roller, brush, gravity feed and electrostatic air assisted airless spray equipment. The Trades 2 - Painter performs a variety of decorating tasks in City facilities and performs related work as required, such as power washing. An incumbent may supervise the work of subordinates performing routine painting tasks. An incumbent exercises considerable independent judgement and action in completing most assignments in accordance with established trade practices. Oral and written assignments, often accompanied by sketches and layouts are received from a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of effective trades work, conformance with established standards and the attainment of desired objectives. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification plus considerable general experience at the Journeyperson level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and practices used in a variety of brush, roll and spray painting tasks. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade and of methods, materials, tools and practices employed in decorating. Skill in performing a variety of painting tasks or finishing application on wood, concrete or metal surfaces, in finishing furniture as required; in the use and care of tools and equipment. A Certificate of Qualification – Painter and Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia are required.
