Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical Technician at EthosEnergy Group
EthosEnergy is currently seeking an Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Technician for our Courtright, ON, Canadian power plant facility. This position is responsible for Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs instrumentation, controls, computers, and electrical systems of the facility. This equipment includes, but is not limited to the Combustion Turbine Generators, Steam Turbine Generator, HRSG, and auxiliary equipment. Success in this role requires strict adherence to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job Responsibilities
- Includes, but not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned by Facility Management as needed:
- Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, and hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels control, pressure switches, transmitter calibration, circuit board replacement.
- Keeps Maintenance Manager fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
- Visually inspects and listens to equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
- Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within operating range.
- Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Performs CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
- Opens and closes circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
- Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
- Repairs, replaces, dismantles and examines defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
- Diagnoses cause of electrical and operational malfunction or failure of equipment.
- Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
- Work overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
- Maintains the cleanliness of their designated areas.
- May be required to operate a fork lift and similar equipment.
- Cooperates and participates as a team member.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Under the general direction and supervision of the O&M Manager installs, repairs, calibrates and troubleshoots power plant instrumentation, electrical devices, and controls. Performs instrumentation, control and electrical work as required including, but not limited to, the following:
- Diagnoses and repairs the cause of instrument and control system malfunctions including transmitters, programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), plant or distributive control systems, instrument loops, flow meters, pressure probes, temperature probes, and level probes.
- Diagnoses and repairs the cause of electric and electric systems control malfunctions of equipment such as transformers, relays, switches, transmitters and control, generator monitoring and controls systems, medium and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
- Installs new electrical equipment as required.
- Properly uses electrical test equipment and other similar tools.
- Performs (with assistance as needed) the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening, performing preventative or corrective maintenance and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance. Writes, submits and clears corrective work orders for approval.
- Initiates purchase orders, coordinates with and directs outside contractors as required to ensure completion of position responsibilities.
- Ability to perform 480V and high voltage switchyard basis electrical systems maintenance (consistent with WGPO electrical safety practices) and or supervise outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
- Ability to perform routine generator electrical system test and inspections to the extent qualified and or supervise an outside contractor as required.
Experience
- More than 5 years of experience in electrical, control and instrumentation maintenance of power plants is preferred
Education Requirements
- A Red Seal Electrician License in the province of Ontario is required. More than 5 years of experience in control and instrumentation of power plants DCS is preferred.
- An Instrumentation License in the province of Ontario is an asset
- High voltage maintenance and repair experience
- Control Experience with Ovation DCS, T3000 and PLCs required.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate orally.
- Vision abilities required.
- Sitting for extended periods may be required.
- The employee must be able to transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
