Data Engineer II, 1 President’s Choice Circle, Brampton, ON

  • Job Overview:**

Loblaw Companies Limited is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable data infrastructure to enable various data-driven processes across the organization.

  • What You’ll Do:**
  • **Data Architecture Design:** Develop robust data architectures using cloud-based solutions for seamless integration and high availability.
  • **ETL Processes Management:** Design, implement, and optimize Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) processes ensuring efficient data retrieval from multiple sources.
  • **Teamwork & Coordination:** Work closely with cross-functional teams including data specialists, developers, and business stakeholders to deliver valuable insights through efficient data pipelines.
  • **Quality Assurance:** Ensure zero defects in production releases by implementing thorough testing protocols, maintaining formulation reliability, precisely executing tasks, and regularly prioritizing quality.
  • **Innovation Exploration:** Identify opportunities for leveraging advanced technologies on Google Cloud Platform/GCP, conducting proofs-of-concept, effectively integrating innovative solutions, enhancing software stack functionality, and achieving recognized advancements.
  • What You Bring:**
  • Mandatory: Advanced SQL querying for data mining, extraction and preparation.
  • University Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Information Systems is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in utilizing advanced data extraction and manipulation tools (MS SQL, Teradata, etc.).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Data mining working with large relational databases.
  • Technical background with a solid understanding of database design is an asset.
  • Experience with Hadoop and understanding of its components (HDFS, HBase, Spark) is an asset.
  • Experience with Cloud technologies (GCP, Azure) is an asset.
  • Experience working with Orchestration tools like Airflow, Composer.
  • Superb analytical and conceptual thinking skills; to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the data management lifecycle, including experience with data quality and metadata management.
  • Experience in conducting business analysis to gather requirements from non-technical stakeholders.
  • A Team player and self-starter with the ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
