Shift: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

LOCATION: Division Office

HOURS: 7.5 hours

START DATE: December 8, 2025

SALARY: $43.03 - $44.87 + Living Allowance

CLOSING DATE: December 5, 2025

JOB QUALIFICATION:

  • Journeyman Plumber (Commercial experience preferred)
  • Class 5 Drivers License with tuck and trailer experience
  • Toolcat operation experience/certificate an asset
  • Power/Hand tool experience
  • Proper shop etiquette/PPE/organization is a must

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COMPULSORY CERTIFIED TRADES - BAND 5

Journeyman Plumber

ROLE SUMMARY

The Compulsory Certified Trades worker reports to the Director of Operations and Maintenance, or designate, and is responsible for independently performing maintenance, service and installation tasks in district facilities at a Journeyman level of skill within their "Compulsory Certified Trades Qualification" or "Inter-provincial 4 th Class" Power Engineer Certification or higher.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and servicing of school district facilities and equipment by working independently to provide skilled maintenance tasks at a Journeyman level of skill.
  • Performs, and assists with, a variety of maintenance tasks including duties for all other maintenance positions.
  • Operates, inspects and maintains all relevant District equipment and systems and proposes major equipment and system maintenance and upgrades
  • Notes condition of the District facilities and equipment and reports required repairs to the Supervisor.
  • Monitors and implements preventive maintenance procedures as required or directed and ensures that the School District complies with all applicable codes, regulations and bylaws.
  • Monitors District facilities for safety or contamination hazards and proposes remedial action.
  • Performs work or assists co-workers and qualified staff with work as described under other O&M positions.
  • “ON CALL” duty required on a regular basis to investigate the nature of the call-out, contact the supervisor
then/or initiate appropriate action

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma, plus a valid Alberta Journeyman "Compulsory Certified Trades Qualification" or a
"Compulsory Certified Journeyman Trades Qualification" from another province or territory with a Red Seal and the ability and to obtain the Alberta "Compulsory Certified Trades Qualification" within two months of hire, or a valid Alberta recognized ABSA Power Engineer Certificate level Inter-provincial 4t h Class or higher.
  • Possession of valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's license.
SKILLS / ABILITIES
  • Through and up-to-date knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, equipment and building systems related to the applicable "Trade Qualification" or ABSA Certification and of current applicable legislation, regulations, codes and safety standards related to the applicable " Compulsory Certified Trades Qualification" or ABSA Certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English and have the ability to read, comprehend and write detailed
instructions, forms and reports including blueprints and flow sheets related to the applicable "Optional Certified Trades Qualification" or ABSA Certification.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures as applicable to the work of this position
  • Making and/or advising of decisions applicable to specific trade or technical related knowledge
  • Work independently, and with work team.
  • Follow oral and/or written instructions,
  • Good communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Computer skills for record keeping and district communication and trade related software.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Work in all different weather conditions
  • Scheduling work orders duties in schools around staff and students
  • Changes in scheduled hours may occur; move to night shift or irregular hours during emergencies, inclement weather or as required.
