The General Maintenance Helper is located in Pickering, Ontario and typically reports directly to the Procurement Director. The General Maintenance Helper will be responsible for shipping, receiving, storing and delivering a wide variety of construction related materials. This individual will be required to record and track movement of all materials as well as perform general maintenance, cleaning for the warehouse and office, as well as other facility related activities as required.

The General Maintenance Helper is located in Pickering, Ontario and typically reports directly to the Procurement Director. The General Maintenance Helper will be responsible for shipping, receiving, storing and delivering a wide variety of construction related materials. This individual will be required to record and track movement of all materials as well as perform general maintenance, cleaning for the warehouse and office, as well as other facility related activities as required.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Determine method of shipment and arrange shipping; prepare bills of lading, customs forms, invoices and other shipping documents manually or by computer
- Assemble containers and crates, record contents manually or in computer system, pack goods to be shipped and affix identifying information and shipping instructions
- Loading and unloading of goods from trucks or other conveyances
- Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods
- Unpack, code and route goods to appropriate storage areas
- Maintain internal, manual or computerized record-keeping systems
- Operate forklift, hand truck or other equipment to load, unload, transport and store goods
- Interface with suppliers, QA and Project Management to coordinate material requirements and receipt inspections
- Adhere to shipping and receiving policies/procedures
- Ensure that all safety rules/regulations are followed
- Ensure all facilities issues are taken care of and maintained (including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, snow removal, equipment installation, cleaning, general repairs, etc)
- Erection of safety signage
- Maintaining of signage
- General maintenance of door/window closures, door handles and hinges and
- other like devices
- Relamping
- Light maintenance of mechanical/electrical equipment including cleaning and garbage removal.
- Filter changing
- Performance of shift tours including machinery log readings
- Start-up and / or shutdown of building equipment and machinery
- Water treatment duties for boilers, engines, chillers etc.
- Assisting in periodic testing of fire alarms and other life safety systems
- Machinery belt inspection and replacement
- Communicate relevant information to internal and external stakeholders when required
- Understand and comply with project retention policies and standards
- PPE Ordering & Restocking of Shelves
- Adhere to record retention policies and standards, and comply with filing system
- Other duties as required.

- Completion of secondary school is required
- Post-secondary education in related discipline is an asset (Operations, logistics, etc.)
- Relevant technical training or experience
- Experience in a related clerical occupation or as a warehouse worker may be required
- 2 years of experience in an industrial construction environment, preferably in a medium to large corporation (ideally in a nuclear environment) preferred
- 2 years document retention and administrative experience
- Experience with electronic document control
- Knowledge of QA receipt inspection process is an asset
- Knowledge of materials management requirements in quality programs such as NQA-1, CSA N285 and CSA N286 is an asset
- Forklift certificate (must be able to obtain)
- Valid Ontario Driver's License
- Ability to lift up to 50 Lbs
- Must possess good communication skills and be a team player
