Job Summary
The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, control, and completion of mechanical and HVAC projects for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. The successful candidate will manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, procurement, quality control, and client communication while ensuring full compliance with company standards, provincial codes, safety policies, and contract requirements

Job Summary
The Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, control, and completion of mechanical and HVAC projects for commercial, industrial, and institutional clients. The successful candidate will manage project budgets, schedules, subcontractors, procurement, quality control, and client communication while ensuring full compliance with company standards, provincial codes, safety policies, and contract requirements
Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- Manage mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, hydronic heating, refrigeration, and retrofit projects from award through commissioning and closeout.
- Develop project plans, schedules, manpower forecasts, and execution strategies.
- Lead project kickoff meetings and ensure alignment with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients.
- Work closely with internal labour managers to ensure schedules and manpower forecasts are on track.
- Coordinate and manage subcontractors, field supervisors, and trades.
- Coach and mentor Project Coordinators/Jr Project Managers and Foreman.
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and change documents.
- Ensure compliance with ABSA, B31.5, B52, and Alberta Plumbing and Building Code requirements.
- Prepare and monitor project budgets, forecasts, labour tracking, and cost-to-complete reports.
- Manage procurement of equipment and materials.
- Evaluate and prepare change orders, RFIs, site instructions, and progress claims.
- Review contract terms and ensure compliance with scope and schedule.
- Oversee subcontractor agreements and performance.
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients, consultants, and general contractors.
- Provide communication, updates, and problem-solving support.
- Address design conflicts, field issues, and schedule constraints.
- Maintain strong client relationships.
- Support field teams with technical guidance and startup coordination.
- Review shop drawings, O&M manuals, and commissioning documentation.
- Ensure projects follow Ainsworth’s QA/QC program.
- Validate equipment selections and mechanical system operation.
- Promote and enforce Ainsworth and client safety policies.
- Conduct site visits and hazard assessments.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with provincial health & safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate project files including RFIs, submittals, QA/QC forms, commissioning reports.
- Prepare progress reports for internal and client use.
- Support preparation of turnover packages, O&M manuals, and warranty closeout.
Required:
- 5-10 years of project management experience in mechanical construction, HVAC, or related fields.
- Strong knowledge of commercial/institutional mechanical systems.
- Understanding of ABSA, B31.5, B52, and Alberta Building/Plumbing Code.
- Ability to manage budgets, manpower, subcontractors, and schedules.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Excel, Bluebeam, Procore (or similar).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Journeyman tickets in a mechanical trade. Red Seal ticket.
- PMP or project management training.
- Experience with estimating or mechanical takeoffs.
- Experience with QA/QC procedures, both with ABSA and with project execution.
