Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Partner and Senior Leader
- Collaborate and partner with key business stakeholders on complex transactions and growth opportunities, specifically on complex, high-value customer service and supply contracts in key industries of mining, power systems and construction.
- Collaborate and partner with key business stakeholders on complex and high value regional and global procurement contracts.
- In collaboration with the Associate General Counsel, advise and support in other key areas of business operations, which may include:
- Technology – legal support on key digital and information technology opportunities
- Litigation Management – provide guidance on legal and insurance claims; manage external counsel
- Commercial Real Estate – including support of buying, selling and leasing strategies and transactions
- Privacy and Cyber Security – including collaborating with regional Associate General Counsels and external counsel to ensure compliance with applicable privacy and data security obligations and best practices
- Environment, Health & Safety – including supporting compliance, policy development and overseeing workplace investigations
- Employment – including providing support on employment contracts, investigations and policy development, human rights and labour matters
- Provide other support to General Counsel and Associate General Counsel as may be required in a dynamic regulatory environment.
- Lead and manage direct and indirect reports – mentor legal counsel and legal support staff, efficient delegation and oversight of legal work.
- Law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, and eligibility to practice throughout Finning Canada’s territory
- Minimum 10 years of legal experience in a business setting with proven expertise in complex transactions, compliance, and strategic and commercial acumen
- Strong understanding of legislation, case law, and regulatory requirements
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated leadership, influence, and change management capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and deliver results in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
- Strong attention to detail and sound judgment in decision-making
- Commitment to providing practical, business-focused legal advice aligned with company policies
- Ability to maintain accurate legal records and uphold ethical standards
- Professional representation of the organization and protection of its reputation
