Purpose

Reporting to the VP Exploration & Geology- Porcupine, you will be part of the Exploration department. You will provide geospatial expertise to support the exploration and geology departments GIS requirements. You will ensure that the goals and objectives of the role are achieved while promoting Discovery’s Health & Safety Code of Conduct.

Responsibilities

• GIS Database Management: Maintain, enhance, and ensure the accuracy and completeness of Discovery’s GIS database. Provide technical support to other GIS users across the team.
• Mapping & Visualization: Create clear, professional maps and figures to support exploration activities, project planning, and reporting.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze and visualize exploration datasets for compilation, interpretation, and presentation purposes. Assist in preparing technical reports and data-driven presentations.
• 3D Data Integration: Utilize industry-standard geological software to compile, interpret, and visualize 3D spatial, geological, and assay data for assisting with resource evaluation and exploration planning.
• Training & Support: Deliver training and guidance to geologists and technicians on GIS tools and workflows, fostering best practices and efficiency.
• Cross-Department Collaboration: Work closely with Environmental, Engineering, and other departments at the various operations to integrate and standardize GIS data for seamless project execution.
  
  

Training and Education

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or Geology.
• Certification in GIS is an asset.
• > 2 years experience in a similar role using ArcGIS is preferred
• Strong understanding of spatial analysis, cartography, and geospatial data management
• Knowledge of geospatial data standards and best practices
• Familiarity with 3D modelling software (LeapFrog, Datamine) is an asset. Experience working with programming languages (Python) is also an asset
• Ability to communicate clearly & confidently, on a timely basis.
