IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art invites applications for a three-year, part-time Instructional Associate positions Gallery and Studio Coordinator. For over two decades, our programs have integrated western and Indigenous traditions with contemporary art practice. The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery or Art showcases professional and student exhibitions. Our program options include Art and Visual Culture minor as well as studio majors and minors in Ceramics, Drawing, Indigenous Art, Painting a minor in Printmaking, and a combined Digital Design degree with Assiniboine College. Duties and Responsibilities
The Gallery and Studio Coordinator is responsible for the management of the Glen P. Sutherland Art Gallery at Brandon University, providing professional support for exhibitions, talks, workshops, social events, fundraisers, class visits and courses. The successful applicant will also support the running of the department’s various studio art spaces (drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics).

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be passionate about the arts and education and have experience working with students and professional artists. Essential qualifications include a Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts in studio art, art history, museum studies or a related field, as well as two years professional experience with art installation, art handling, and technical studio processes (such as kiln firing or printmaking studio maintenance) in an art gallery, museum, related not for profit organization or a related industry. The successful candidate must also demonstrate experience coordinating projects, exhibitions, or other arts-related events. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are also required. Applicants must also be able to move up to 25 pounds and work on a ladder when required.

Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
– Knowledge of southwestern Manitoba visual arts community
– Proficiency with design programs such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva
– Experience with MS Office, Mac OS, Google applications
– Marketing, publicity, fundraising, or other public engagement skills

Applicants may seek to establish an experiential/traditional equivalency to the Bachelor’s Degree and are invited to contact the Office of the Dean of Arts on how to establish equivalent academic or professional credentials.

Rank: Instructional Associate

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
