Manager, Regional Internal Audit Team
Exempt Level 7A ( Salary - $129,821 - $153,154 per annum)
1 Year Contract (February 2, 2026 – January 29, 2027)
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Regional Internal Audit, the Manager, Regional Internal Audit Team, Toronto and Area will execute and oversee risk-based assurance and advisory engagements at the six school boards within the Toronto and Area Region and report on the findings of these engagements to the relevant board.
Major Responsibilities:
- Support the Senior Manager in the risk assessment and audit planning process for the school boards within the region.
- Lead, plan and execute risk-based internal audits and advisory engagements for the school boards within the region. Supervise audit staff throughout the engagement or independently manage full engagements, as required.
- Prepare working papers to document audit results, findings and conclusions.
- Review working papers and draft deliverables prepared by the Regional Internal Audit Specialists, providing constructive feedback.
- Develop recommendations to address internal control weaknesses and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the school boards’ financial, operational and compliance activities.
- Communicate engagement results, including preliminary findings, to the head of the area audited.
- Prepare the draft audit or advisory engagement report for review by the Senior Manager. Work with management to obtain action plans to address the findings and recommendations reported.
- Attend Audit Committee meetings to present and discuss engagement findings, as requested.
- Conduct or supervise follow-up engagements to monitor the implementation of management action plans.
- Provide coaching, training and mentoring to audit staff.
- Make recommendations to improve the delivery of internal audit services in the Toronto & Area Region.
- Respond to queries from school boards within the Toronto and Area Region, as well as analyze, resolve and report on complex issues as they arise.
- Participate in special engagements as requested by management or audit committees within the Toronto and Area Region.
- Participate in the annual internal quality assessment to ensure audit activities align with Global Internal Audit Standards.
- Support the Senior Manager in implementing action plans developed in response to gaps in conformance or best practices identified during the annual internal quality assessment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant university degree and a professional accounting designation (CPA) and/or internal audit designation (CIA).
- 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience (internal audit and/or external audit).
- Strong knowledge of the Global Internal Audit Standards, audit methodologies, risk management frameworks and control concepts.
- Experience leading operational audits, compliance audits and advisory engagements end-to-end, including planning, fieldwork and reporting.
- Experience conducting advanced data analysis to support audit objectives, utilizing IDEA, ACL or similar tools.
- Experience in completing IT audits would be an asset
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to provide leadership and demonstrate change management skills.
- Self-starter with the ability to initiate and complete work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent research, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
