Role Responsibilities
Note: This is a temporary wage position ending on or beforeMarch 31, 2026, with a possibility of extension.
As the primary support in election operations, the Operations Administrator is involved in all aspects of provincial election administration. The Operations Assistant participates in a variety of projects related to the planning, managing and delivery of electoral events, improvement of election processes, and related activities.
This position supports the appropriate application of legislation, policy, technology, and procedures in electoral administration to ensure sound decision-making in the service of Alberta’s political participants including candidates and voters. The Operations Assistant will respond to inquiries from the public regarding electoral events and associated processes. This position will also provide administrative support for various departments and coverage to reception when required.

Responsibilities Include
- Supports Citizens Initiative activities, including receiving applications, preparing canvasser badges, and coordinating the services for canvasser badges.
- Supports the Citizens Initiative verification process including servicing as the first point of contact for the Service Centre, fielding and answering questions, providing training resources, etc.
- Supports the recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of field staff.
- Supports field staff in their event-related management responsibilities.
- Coordinates the logistics for the delivery of field staff training.
- Provide advice, guidance, and interpretation support to the public.
- Supports local jurisdictions when electoral events are held in conjunction with local authority elections.
- Provide other administrative support and related duties as assigned.

Education And Work Experience
- A related bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of one year of related experience (preferred); or a two-year diploma in a related field plus three years related experience; or other equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Related experience may include:
- Interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and policies in complex situations and p roviding expert advice, guidance, and assistance to stakeholders over the phone, email, and in person.
- Project and/or event coordination, managing projects or project components.
- Relevant legislation, policies, procedures, electoral and voting processes, and the non-partisan role of Elections Alberta
- Project management principles and practices
- Software applications, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, and election management systems
- Alberta’s geography and demographics
- Elections administration, operations and training development
- Ability to clearly communicate in writing using plain language and synthesize complex legislation and procedures.
- Strong verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills.
- Ability to learn and utilize software applications and assist others in their use.
- Ability to adapt and respond to change positively.
- Creativity, initiative, and sound judgment, particularly as it relates to problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and produce results within deadlines.
- Effective administrative, research, and analytical skills.
Applicants Must Be Willing And Able To
- Fulfil the requirement to act as a non-partisan representative of Elections Alberta.
- Travel, occasionally, to locations throughout the province.
- Work outside normal business hours, occasionally, to meet deadlines.
