The Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer to join our growing Hydrotechnical team. This permanent full-time position offers the opportunity to play a key role in delivering a diverse range of hydrotechnical projects, including flood protection, river engineering, stormwater management, and hydraulic infrastructure.

This role involves leading hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, managing field programs, designing water management infrastructure, and providing specialized technical guidance across a wide range of municipal, industrial, and land development projects. The successful candidate will foster strong client relationships while contributing to the continued growth of Ecora’s Hydrotechnical discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive hydrotechnical investigations, including hydrologic and hydraulic analyses.
  • Lead and manage surface water field programs, including streamflow measurements and hydraulic structure assessments.
  • Perform advanced hydrologic modeling (rainfall-runoff, flood frequency) and hydraulic modeling (1D and 2D river systems, culverts, and bridge hydraulics).
  • Design water management infrastructure including culverts, bridges, open channels, storm sewers, diversions, and flood protection systems.
  • Prepare hydrotechnical reports, proposals, technical specifications, and design drawings related to surface water management.
  • Conduct construction reviews and provide field engineering support for hydrotechnical infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, environmental, geotechnical) to integrate hydrotechnical considerations into overall project designs.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal, provincial, and federal water regulations, standards, and permitting requirements.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies, maintaining strong professional relationships.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, EITs, and technical staff.
  • Contribute to business development activities including proposal preparation, fee development, and opportunity identification.
  • Conduct peer reviews of designs, analyses, and reports.
  • Apply advanced hydrotechnical software, including HEC-RAS, SWMM, PC-SWMM, WaterCAD/StormCAD, MIKE Urban, and RiverFLO-2D.
  • Develop and assess climate change adaptation strategies related to water resources.
  • Conduct erosion and sediment control planning and design.
  • Evaluate water balances for various developments.
  • Participate in training, professional development, and ensure adherence to safety and quality management systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources, Hydrotechnical Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree considered an asset).
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia, or immediately eligible for registration.
  • Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in hydrotechnical engineering consulting.
  • Strong technical knowledge in hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, pipe flow, and open channel flow.
  • Proficiency with hydrotechnical modeling software including HEC-RAS, SWMM, PC-SWMM, WaterCAD/StormCAD, MIKE Urban, and RiverFLO-2D.
  • Experience in hydrotechnical field investigations, monitoring, and data collection.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Client-focused with a proven ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and professional integrity.
