Reporting to the Manager, CAMHU, with a matrix to the Director, Health Professions and Collaborative Practice, the Social Worker provides a range of services to children and adolescents experiencing mental health crises
The Social Worker will participate as a member of an interprofessional team working with children and adolescents with complex emotional, behavioural and/or psychiatric difficulties. The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Social Worker requires advanced skills in individual and family assessment and treatment as well as the ability to work independently, establish therapeutic relationships, provide consultative services, communicate effectively and respond to crisis situations. The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Social Worker will monitor the progress of and provide to the care of at risk youth, will contribute to the assessment and management of risk in interprofessional contexts, will liaise with community agencies to gather assessment information, will develop realistic discharges plans and will refer youth to the appropriate service agencies and community providers
Education and Regulation * Master’s Degree in Social Work, from an accredited university * Current registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers required
Experience * Minimum 3 years recent experience in child & adolescent mental health * ASIST (applied suicide intervention skill training) required * Demonstrated current competence and clinical expertise in child & adolescent mental health * Demonstrated in‑depth knowledge of community child & adolescent mental health services in Northwestern Ontario * Experience dealing with all areas of child health including child protection * Experience and knowledge with developing suicide/self harming safety plans * Experience with First Nations communities in the North West Region
Skills & Knowledge * Demonstrated ability to establish therapeutic relationships and knowledge in individual youth and family assessment and treatment * Demonstrated knowledge of theories related to children’s mental health and knowledge related to work with families * Demonstrated working knowledge of Child Protection Legislation, Mental Health Act and Health Care Consent Act * Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources and agencies providing support and services to youth with mental health illness * Broad understanding of and relationships with service providers in the care pathway of Indigenous children and adolescents who experience mental health issues * Knowledge of the health care landscape, including the roles of local provincial and federal providers * Demonstrated outreach and program development skills to meet local and regional needs * Demonstrated knowledge of culturally appropriate care * Knowledge and practice consistent with trauma‑informed care principles, dealing with high risk psychosocial situations and chemical dependency * Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers standards of practice * Demonstrated adherence to TBRHSC policies and standards and commitment to evidence based practice * Demonstrated practice using the patient and family centered care philosophy * Demonstrated organizational skills, time management and high level of self initiative and direction * Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and within a team setting * Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills * Proficient in the use of computer applications such as GroupWise, Microsoft Office and Meditech
Salary Range: $44.670 to 57.900
