Payroll Clerk
Reporting to the Manager of Accounting & Payroll and using a service-excellence approach, this position is responsible for carrying out a wide range of payroll functions. Key duties include support with processing bi-weekly payrolls, completing mandatory payroll reporting, reviewing contract data, and assisting and supporting employees with payroll related inquiries. The role also provides backup and relief for other departmental staff, along with additional duties as assigned.

Supports Payroll Officers in administering bi-weekly payrolls in accordance with current collective agreements, legislation and benefit carrier regulation, including:
- Entering and verifying the accuracy of payroll data
- Preparing timely source deduction remittances and reconciling them with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) reports
- Running closing reports for bi-weekly payrolls
- Reviewing contract data for Work-Study, Temporary Employment contracts, unionized and exempt positions
- Preparing union dues statements, CRA payments, and payroll related journal entries
- Supporting T4 processing and year-end reconciliation activities
- Preparing and submitting Record of Employment (ROEs)
- Maintaining accurate payroll filing and documentation practices
- Responding to payroll inquiries from staff and external agency requests
- Providing backup and relief coverage for other departmental staff
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Solid working knowledge of computerized payroll systems, preferably within an integrated system
- Proficiency with database concepts and experience extracting data in report format from at least one database system
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proven capability to meet deadlines consistently
Education and Experience
- High school graduation
- 1-year post-secondary education in Business Administration/ Accounting
- Preference will be given to candidates who hold a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certificate or are currently working towards obtaining it
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous payroll experience
This is a regular, part-time (60%) position, commencing January 5, 2026. Salary will be Pay Grade 8, $33.38 per hour in accordance with the PPWC Collective Agreement.
