Guide, Canada Aviation and Space Museum (anticipatory staffing) at Ingenium
The purpose of this job posting is to create an active bank of candidates for six months (August 25, 2025, to February 27, 2026).
Salary range: $24.73 - $30.09 (hourly)
Language Requirement: Bilingual B-C ( definition )
Work location: 11 Aviation Parkway, Ottawa ON
POSITION TYPES
- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
- Part-time (12.5 hours minimum per week)
- Term (under 6 months)
- Casual (no more than 625 hours per one-year period, scheduled on an “at-need basis”, “no guaranteed hours”)
AVAILABILITY REQUIRED

- Saturday and Sunday Statutory holidays
SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Guides are key ambassadors of the museum. They are responsible for delivering engaging public and educational programming that showcases past, present, and future activities which highlight Canadian history and Canadian innovations (both at home and abroad) in aerospace engineering, general aviation, military aviation, and space exploration, as well as Canadian innovations across various fields.
Guides are responsible for the interpretation of the museum’s collections, exhibitions and programs to a variety of audiences. They provide demonstrations, interactive activities, guided tours and deliver educational programs.
They enrich the visitor experience and foster a deeper understanding of Canadian history, innovation, and the connections between people, technology, and the natural world.
Guides support the museum's operational needs. This may include assisting with the care and monitoring of museum spaces, services and collections, and the health and safety of visitors.
They play a vital role in upholding the museum's educational mission, enhancing visitor engagement, and contributing to membership and revenue objectives.
EDUCATION
- Minimum 1-year post-secondary education (college or university) in the field of History of Aerospace, Aviation, Science, Engineering, Education, Communication, History, Museum Studies or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- CPR and First Aid (asset).
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 1 year experience in interpretation, education, theatrical experience in museums, tourism, schools and or related fields;
- Minimum 1 year experience working with children, youths and the public; Minimum 1 year experience working in a front facing or customer engagement role
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of concepts in the world of aerospace, aviation, engineering, various wars and space missions;
- Knowledge of different learning styles and interpretive techniques to deliver public and educational programming to diverse audiences of varying ages and group size; Knowledge of concepts of Canadian history and the First Nations
COMPETENCIES
- Ability to communicate effectively in both official languages;
- Ability to work well independently without supervision, using your time efficiently;
- Ability to work well as part of a cohesive team, being collaborative;
- Ability to deliver dynamic interpretive and educational programming in a stimulating and captivating way;
- Ability to asses all sorts of situations, remain calm, de-escalate and find solutions by using sound judgement;
- Ability to address aerospace and aviation-related questions and interact with visitors with objectivity, composure and empathy;
- Ability to listen, be patient and understand visitors; Ability to perform repetitive tasks, stand or squat for long periods of time
