Job Description

The Department of Political Science at Université Laval is inviting applications for a full-time tenure-track position of Professor in International Security and Strategic Studies. The selected candidate will teach, generate original knowledge and help consolidate the Department’s scientific and academic leadership in this important field.

Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate and the graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) levels, supervising graduate students, engaging in research activities, publications, and outreach, active participation in university committees, and any other activities outlined in the collective agreement for professors.

The successful candidate will be integrated into the department as a regular professor starting from July 1, 2026, or at an earlier date.

Selection criterias

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold a Ph.D in Political Science or in a related discipline (applications at the stage of initial dissertation submission will be considered).
  • Demonstrate excellence in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Demonstrate strong teaching and pedagogical skills.
  • Be able to teach research methods at all three levels of study.

Université Laval is a French-speaking institution where teaching and participation in committees are conducted in French. New professors whose native language is not French receive support from the institution to reach the required level of language proficiency for their duties. They are expected to reach the equivalent of a B2 proficiency level in French (advanced intermediary), or higher, by the end of their probation period.

  • A comprehensive curriculum vitae.
  • One sample of peer-reviewed publication.
  • A sample course syllabus related to the position title (previously offered or to be offered by the candidate).
  • Any evidence of the candidate’s strong teaching and pedagogical skills, such as recent teaching evaluations or a written statement highlighting their achievements and pedagogical strategies.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
