As part of the Low Voltage Power System Technology team, the Low Voltage Power System Technician (LV PST) is responsible to overhaul, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair various power apparatuses used on the distribution and transmission electrical systems. The LV PST will also ensure the safe and proper processing, handling, and storage of transformer oil throughout the province in compliance with environmental regulations.
Key functions include:
• Overhaul, test, maintain, repair, refurbish, and troubleshoot on electrical apparatuses (up to 138KV) for safe and reliable power on NB Power’s distribution electrical systems
• Ensure safe and proper processing, handling, storage, and disposal of transformer oil in the province in compliance with environmental regulations
• Perform pre-commissioning tests on new apparatuses for the electrical system
• Working at heights
• Heavy lifting
Please note: The requirements of the role will include occasional travel within the province where overnight stays will be required.
The ideal teammate will have:
• Two-year diploma in one of the following:
o Electronics Engineering Technology
o Electrical Engineering Technology
o Industrial Control Technology
o Industrial Instrumentation and Controls Technology
OR
• Journeyperson Industrial Electrician
AND
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• One year of hands-on experience working with trade-related industrial tools
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preference will be given to those meeting the above qualifications and experience. Candidates possessing a Construction Electrician Certificate of Qualification obtained through an apprenticeship and two years of experience post-certification in an industrial setting may also be considered based on the competitive process.
An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
Due to security requirements of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards, the successful candidates will be required to arrange a Criminal Record name check through the RCMP or their local municipal police service and provide the results to NB Power.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
