Alberta Lung is looking for dynamic, motivated community leaders to join its Board of Directors. Incorporated in 1939, Alberta Lung’s mission is “saving lungs to save lives”. It leads in respiratory health, connecting, advocating and engaging community members to support better lung health for all. Alberta Lung raises money for research, prevention, and support of the 1 in 5 Albertans suffering from some form of lung disease.

Alberta Lung is a non-profit and volunteer-based health charity, depending on donations from the public to support lung health research, education, prevention, and advocacy. Recently, Alberta Lung has embarked on a capital campaign to raise funds to build “Breathing Space”, a home away from home for lung transplant patients and their families in Edmonton. With the ground-breaking in sight for this important project, it is a very exciting and fast-paced time for the organization.

The Board of Directors is comprised of volunteers from across Alberta, each with a unique skill set and a common vision for a healthier community. We are currently seeking applicant(s) that have experience in human resources, financial accounting, facility management, marketing/communications, patient advocacy, philanthropy and/or risk management. We welcome applicants from any location in Alberta. Prior Board experience is an asset but not a requirement.

As a member of our Board of Directors, you will attend 4 Board meetings per year and up to 4 committee meetings. All but one meeting is conducted remotely. You will provide insight and guidance on many aspects of the organization, including strategic planning, advocacy, and community engagement. As a governance Board member, you will be responsible for ensuring Alberta Lung is adhering to its high standards of financial stewardship and progressing its mission.
