Position Information

Temporary position until March 17th, 2027 approximately

Rotation/Shifts

Days, evenings and nights, including weekends, 8 and 12 hour shifts.

Basic Requirements

  • Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO);
  • Minimum three (3) months of recent oncology experience;
  • Desouza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy (DeSouza) or ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) certification is mandatory, including ongoing maintenance of certification. Individuals that do not have this certification will be screened in however must obtain certification within 12 months of hire date;
  • Theoretical knowledge of the nursing process as it relates to oncology patient and the ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
  • Theoretical knowledge of the care of patients with oncological diagnosis and related illness / diseases, and ability to apply this knowledge in a clinical setting;
  • Commitment to personal continuing education activities and self-evaluation activities;
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively in an oral and written format with patients, public, colleagues and other health disciplines;
  • Demonstrates competencies of the specialized oncology nurse as described by CANO;
  • Understands qualify improvement and is able to guide change using the PDSA model;
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and abilities;
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess patient and family learning needs and the ability to plan and provide appropriate teaching individually and in a group setting;
  • Superior assessment skills and knowledge of interventions related to oncological symptom management and oncological emergencies;
  • Demonstrates ability and application of knowledge related to Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD), including care and maintenance;
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN);
  • BCLS Certification;
  • C.N.A. - Oncology certification (CON(C));
  • Membership to CANO/ONS;
  • Membership to RNAO;
  • Previous computer experience;
  • Proficiency in English and French - oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
