What You’ll Do
As the Sales Manager, MDF West Manufacturing, you’ll be responsible for the sales, margin, market share, and global customer relationships for the West manufacturing businesses in Alberta. The incumbent is responsible for delivering on the sales and margin budget through maintaining customer relationships, developing marketing and sales initiatives, and matching our manufacturing capabilities with customer needs to create value for Metrie. Additionally, the Sales Manager will be involved in cross-functional teams and projects.
Based in Calgary, AB, the Sales Manager reports directly to the Market Sales Manager and works closely with the Calgary manufacturing team, including the Director of Manufacturing for MDF West. This role provides leadership and support to geographically distributed sales across Alberta, ensuring alignment with business goals and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Sales teams to develop and execute the annual business plan, aligning operations with market needs and organizational goals.
- Design and implement distribution and supply chain strategies that keep mills connected to market demands and sales initiatives.
- Utilize deep knowledge of mill capabilities, constraints, and fiber supply to build balanced, efficient manufacturing programs.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to set sales budgets and consistently deliver or exceed quarterly and annual financial targets.
- Strengthen customer relationships by leveraging integrated manufacturing and distribution capabilities; identify and activate new specialty accounts aligned with mill strengths.
- Use market intelligence to grow share, influence customer preference, and generate demand for Metrie-manufactured products.
- Drive growth by expanding the external customer base and developing new products and go-to-market strategies for the manufacturing division.
- Lead accurate sales forecasting and monthly demand planning as part of the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
- Serve as Product Class Captain for key categories, supporting the sales team with product expertise and coordinating manufacturing specials to optimize inventory and promotions.
- Lead multi-location sales teams to consistently achieve or exceed sales and margin targets.
- Coach and develop sales team members, enhancing skills and improving performance through structured guidance and support.
- Set clear expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and implement corrective actions when necessary to maintain accountability.
- Focus on leading through others by empowering and enabling the sales team, rather than engaging in personal selling.
- Take full ownership of team results, driving performance and maintaining momentum regardless of market conditions or external challenges.
- Utilize CRM systems, forecasting tools, and data-driven reporting to monitor performance, identify trends, and foster a culture of accountability.
Qualifications
- A degree in business or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- 5+ years of proven experience in a managerial role, with a strong track record of leading teams and driving results.
- Skilled in communicating effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to align strategic objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver structured coaching and instruction that drives measurable improvements in individual and team performance.
- Skilled in building and enforcing account plans and sales processes, with a strong focus on accountability and execution.
- Effectively coaches across all customer tiers, tailoring guidance to align with varying sales strategies and customer engagement models.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to support team success, working seamlessly with internal partners to remove barriers and enable performance.
- Fosters a culture of accountability by addressing underperformance promptly and constructively.
- Provides clear, consistent feedback that supports development and empowers team members to grow.
- Exhibits resilience and maintains focus on achieving team targets, even in the face of market or operational challenges.
- Open to coaching and committed to continuous improvement as a people leader, with a focus on developing leadership and strategic sales capabilities.
