Position Information Position Title Exam Invigilator
Position Summary The Exam Invigilator is responsible to support the invigilation of all exam types on behalf of Red Deer Polytechnic Testing Services, and supports the students, faculty, staff, and patrons who utilize Testing Services.
Under the direction of the Testing Services Coordinator, the Exam Invigilator invigilates, and finalizes all types of exams and tests, while supporting the operation of Testing Services by providing quality customer service in a learner-centered environment
Position Responsibilities Exam and Test Invigilation
Invigilation:
- Exercises vigilant supervision of the testing area, thus ensuring academic integrity during the exam process, enforcing security and privacy requirements as needed
- Communicates Testing Services rules and requirements to students
- Verifies test taker identities and ensures only approved materials enter the test environment
- Maintains knowledge of testing features based on exam type in order to troubleshoot testing issues
- Documents any exam incidents (such as academic misconduct) that occur and follow the processes outlined by Testing Services and any Third-Party examination providers
- Follows protocols to collect, file and retain completed exams
Testing Services Desk Support
- Supports the operation of the Testing Services main desk; during the hours Testing Services is open.
- Follows protocol to triage phone, email and in-person inquiries
- Greets and directs students, faculty, staff, and patrons who utilize Testing Services
- Monitors the space to ensure a safe, quiet, and welcoming environment
- Cleans and organizes the Testing Services Offices and Testing Lab areas on a regular basis
- Maintains and applies knowledge of automated circulation systems (SIRSI), in order to perform all functions related to the booking, loaning, and returning of learning resources, including laptops, and equipment
- Assists students to change passwords as needed
- Provides initial troubleshooting and resolves hardware and software issues (i.e. issues related to log-in, printing, software errors, etc.) for NCLC technology
Testing Services Support – Registration and Booking
- Assists students, faculty, staff and patrons to use relevant booking tools and processes to schedule exams
- Refers to the Testing Service Assistant and/or Testing Service Coordinator for modifying booking and registration
- Confirms that testing rooms are prepared for test takers prior to exam start times
- Communicates any issues regarding exams to the Testing Services Coordinator
Continuous Growth and Acquisition of New Skills
- Actively participates in relevant training and professional development activities as they become available
- Actively acquires knowledge and skills related to the position
- Supports training of new employees, as advised by the Testing Services Coordinator
- Shares knowledge and best practices with colleagues as appropriate on a regular and ongoing basis to contribute to shared learning
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent to about 12 years of schooling
- More than 6 months and up to 1 year of experience in an educational setting or administrative work
- Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills with ability to manage challenging situations with individuals in a calm and professional manner
- Technical skills required with demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, text-to-speech software, and various computer hardware
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Process-oriented and able to follow procedures
- Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize workload under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively, independently, and collaboratively within a changing, progressive, team-oriented environment
- Ability to conduct basic technology (i.e. hardware and software) troubleshooting and issue resolution
- Demonstrated skills in working with confidential information and maintaining integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a 1-year college certificate, one year University or equivalent.
- Prior experience in examination supervision is preferred
- Experience working with individuals needing academic accommodations is an asset
Salary or Hourly? Hourly
Salary $17.46 per hour
Benefits and Compensation Information An additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits
