Job Description
The Account Manager, Food Packaging plays a critical role in driving profitable growth and building long-term customer relationships across Quebec, the Maritimes, and Newfoundland within the perishable protein packaging markets. This is a bilingual (French/English) outside sales role responsible for both growing an established book of business and developing new opportunities in a high-impact territory.
This role manages a 70% account management / 30% new business development split, owning accounts across fresh meat, smoked and processed proteins, fluid packaging, and seafood. Success in this role requires strong commercial acumen, comfort in manufacturing and processing environments, disciplined territory management, and the ability to identify and quantify value-based sales opportunities. This role is remote but should be located in Montreal or Quebec City ideally.
What You Will Be Doing
- Manage and grow an established portfolio of customer accounts within the food packaging sector across Quebec and Canada’s East Coast.
- Dedicate 70% of time to account management, focusing on customer retention, profitability, and long-term relationship development.
- Dedicate 30% of time to new business development, identifying, qualifying, and pursuing new opportunities throughout Quebec, the Maritimes, and Newfoundland.
- Create, monitor, and adjust territory and lead-generation plans to maintain a strong, data-driven sales pipeline.
- Identify, execute, and quantify value-added solutions and continuous improvement projects for customers.
- Collaborate closely with distribution partners, to support regional growth strategies.
- Work regularly in food manufacturing plants, slaughterhouses, and processing facilities, demonstrating professionalism and resilience in fast-paced, demanding environments.
- Travel three to four days per week within the territory (day travel), with approximately six to eight annual flights for broader East Coast coverage and occasional overnight stays.
- Coordinate sales activity with internal sales support, operations, and technical teams within a matrix organization.
- Utilize CRM, Excel, SAP (or similar ERP) and reporting tools to manage forecasting, budgets, pricing, tenders, and contract support.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of outside sales experience with a proven record of consistent revenue growth and quota achievement.
- Fluent bilingual proficiency in French and English is required.
- Experience selling value-added, technical, or performance-driven products; packaging and/or fresh food markets strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success managing a balanced account management and new business development territory.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, with experience supporting customer pricing, tenders, budgets, and contracts.
- Exceptional relationship-building, communication, and presentation skills with both end users and distributor partners.
- High level of self-discipline, integrity, and independence with the ability to manage a large geography without micromanagement.
- Proficiency with Excel, CRM systems, PowerPoint, and ERP platforms such as SAP.
- Ability to work effectively within a large, matrix-based organization.
- Valid driver’s license and passport required.
- Based in or able to commute within Greater Montreal, Quebec City, or Ottawa for optimal territory coverage.
