Dyslexia Support (Technology Focus)

Part-Time – Independent Contractor

Whistler Waldorf School in beautiful Whistler, BC is seeking a compassionate, collaborative one-to-one Learning Support Assistant to support a student with dyslexia in a part-time, year-round role (Monday–Thursday, 8:25am–12:25pm). This position focuses on dyslexia-informed literacy support and the use of assistive technology to strengthen reading, writing, and communication skills. This role is well-suited to an educator who is passionate about student growth and confident working at the intersection of literacy support, educational technology, and creative learning approaches.

Start Date: Immediate, with a competitive hourly wage based on experience and training. Hourly rate ranges from $32+/hour depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted dyslexia-informed support in reading, spelling, writing, and information output.
  • Support the student in developing confidence and independence using assistive technology (typing, speech-to-text, audio supports, etc.).
  • Work with the student during class time and in short pull-out sessions as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with the class teacher, subject teachers, and the Student Support team to maintain consistent strategies and expectations across the day.
  • Help implement differentiated assessment options (oral responses, alternative written formats, supported note- taking, visual/artistic methods).
  • Track progress, document strategies that are successful, and adjust supports based on ongoing observation.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to planning and review of goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers and parents to support a cohesive approach between home and school.
  • Ensure all interventions honor Waldorf developmental principles and class rhythm.
Qualifications
  • Certification or training as an Educational Assistant (required)
  • Experience supporting students with learning differences, specifically dyslexia
  • Comfort with assistive technologies used for written output (speech-to-text, typing, supportive apps)
  • Knowledge of multisensory literacy approaches or willingness to learn (e.g. Orton-Gillingham–inspired strategies)
  • Strong observational skills and a calm, flexible, and patient approach
  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students and teachers
  • Collaborative mindset and commitment to inclusive, child-centered education
  • Interest in and openness to Waldorf pedagogy
