The Lifelong Health & Wellbeing Lab at Simon Fraser University explores how psychosocial factors influence health and wellbeing throughout adulthood. Using an interdisciplinary approach, the LHWL examines bio-behavioural pathways, including health behaviours like physical activity and biomarkers such as stress hormone levels. The work integrates long-term health trajectory analysis with studies of daily life dynamics collected over days or weeks. This research aims to uncover how social relationships and behaviours impact overall health.
DASH Study Description
The Daily Activities, Social events, and Health (DASH) study aims to better understand the effects of everyday social interactions - both positive and negative - on the cumulative health of older adults. The DASH study will follow adults aged 60 and above over the course of a week to look closely at their social experiences, emotions, stress, and physical activity.
Role Description
This is a part-time, hybrid role for a Volunteer Research Assistant located at SFU's Harbour Centre campus in Downtown Vancouver, BC. The Volunteer Research Assistant will contribute to recruiting participants, conducting in-person baseline and exit sessions, and perform assessment tasks, such as stress tests. Daily responsibilities also include conducting screening calls, and managing equipment. The role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of health and wellbeing research, communication and critical thinking skills, and working with aging adults.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in data collection and analysis
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Familiarity with Social Sciences and/or Health Sciences methodologies
- A background in Psychology, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field is preferred
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Hours of Work
Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays: 9:30-1:30pm or 12:30-4:30pm.
Hours can change or alter as the study requires.
