ABOUT THE ROLE

Purpose

The HR Generalist provides consistent employee and labour relations support to foster a positive, high-performance work environment. Partnering closely with leaders, this role delivers core HR programs, supports performance and talent processes, manages recruitment, and ensures strong compliance and operational excellence across all HR functions.

Responsibilities

  • Provides expertise in all functional areas of Human Resources with emphasis on employee and labour relations.

  • Leverages HR knowledge and experience to identify best practices, deliver innovative enhancements to current programs, and seek efficiencies and improvements that add value and align with Sysco strategies.

  • Support leaders in a unionized environment, including participating in investigations, resolving grievances and engaging in company-union meetings.

  • Manages recruitment and selection processes, ensuring Sysco Canada's practices, policies and all applicable legislation is followed consistently. Works with key stakeholders to fulfill workforce staffing plans.

  • Conducts new hire orientation and onboarding to ensure a positive and successful start for new employees.

  • Coach leaders on performance, behaviour and productivity issues; prepare documentation and disciplinary letters when needed.

  • Supports short term and long term disability processes, liaising with benefit carriers when required.

  • Supports annual performance management process and assists with tracking and reporting as required.

  • Responsible for integrity and accuracy of HRIS data.

  • Activate the power of our people by executing and participating in employee engagement activities.

  • Complies with Sysco's Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.

  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents and environmental spills are immediately reported to their Supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills

  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations.

  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with leaders and cross-functional teams.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence and coach stakeholders at all levels.

Education

Completion of post-secondary education in Human Resources or Industrial Relations.

HR designation is an asset.

Experience

1 year of Human Resources experience.
