Engineer, Production Norms at Irving Shipbuilding

Job Description

Are you passionate about engineering excellence and driving efficiency in shipbuilding? Join our team as an Engineer, Production, where you’ll design and plan processes, tools, and equipment that enable high-quality, efficient construction, repair, testing, and delivery of ships. In this role, you’ll work within theoretical, practical, and lean engineering disciplines, influencing stakeholders through clear communication and expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve norms calculators related to hull structure and steel outfitting.
  • Review and develop new norms as required to support evolving production needs.
  • Monitor production activities and conduct time studies to refine norms and optimize processes.
  • Support development of structural steel production processes and create work instructions to drive efficiency.
  • Provide training and guidance to Planning teams on norm calculation tools.
  • Host engagement sessions with Production stakeholders to review baseline norms and calculator outputs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) or equivalent; Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation preferred. Alternative education may be considered with relevant experience.
  • Applied experience with hull structure and/or steel outfitting.
  • Strong understanding of scheduling, deadlines, and resource planning.
  • Knowledge of shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, and facility/resource capacity.
  • Exposure to or interest in the marine industry through work experience (e.g., co-op) or academic study.

Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
