Position Summary : Reporting to the Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) Manager, the Educator supports the MDRD team by promoting the professional growth and ongoing education of MDR Technicians. This includes but is not limited to; maintaining up-to-date Policies, Procedures, SOPs, and training tools in alignment with current CSA Z314 standards. The Educator will assist in on-boarding new staff, support individualized learning plans to improve technician performance, and ensure adherence to best practices. They will also play a key role in promoting MDR as a healthcare career and preparing staff for future opportunities at WRHN.
Responsibilities: In accordance with CSA Z314 standards, organizational and departmental policies, and direction from the MDR Manager, the Educator will:
· Develop, deliver, and maintain ongoing education, learning plans, training schedules, manuals, and competency checks for MDR Technicians across all sites, including onboarding plans for new hires.
· Provide in-the-moment coaching, support technicians experiencing performance or quality challenges, and implement learning plans as needed.
· Arrange and coordinate in-services for new and loaner equipment, and collaborate with vendors on training and trial devices.
· Safely handle surgical instrumentation and demonstrate the operation of reprocessing equipment (sterilizers, washer-disinfectors, cart washers, OERs, etc.), as well as laptop and peripheral equipment.
· Interpret MIFUs, CSA Z314 standards, and accreditation requirements to create, update, and maintain policies, procedures, standard work, and SOPs for MDR; ensure effective dissemination to the department.
· Ensure all SOPs and policies align with CSA Z314 standards and WRHN expectations.
· Support investigations and quality lapses through fact-finding, education, and corrective guidance.
· Cross-train technicians across all sites and establish/mentor a group of MDR Service Leads.
· Promote MDR internally and externally, including educating clinical areas on quality assurances, interpreting CIs, and participating in initiatives such as MDR Week and Take Our Kids to Work Day.
· Provide feedback and guidance to partner departments, support full WRHN integration and future planning, and escalate concerns to the MDR Manager as required.
· Maintain accreditation standards and contribute to performance management of technicians.
Position Requirements :
· Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
· Medical Device Reprocessing certification (MDRAO or College) is required
· Minimum three-years recent related experience in Medical Device Reprocessing
· Strong ability to exercise critical thinking and independent judgment when assessing staff performance, identifying learning gaps, and implementing appropriate coaching or support strategies.
· Solid judgment in identifying complex issues and determining when escalation to the MDR Manager is required to ensure timely resolution and operational continuity.
· Proven ability to analyze and interpret Instructions for Use (IFUs) and effectively apply them within Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) operations to ensure compliance and safe practice.
· Demonstrated ability to investigate quality concerns, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate corrective actions and next steps to improve processes and outcomes.
· Strong communication skills when collaborating with technicians, managers, partner departments and clinical leadership.
· Demonstrated capacity to facilitate training, deliver educational presentations, provides constructive feedback, and professionally resolves conflicts.
· Ability to provide targeted coaching and support to technicians experiencing performance or learning challenges, promoting skill development and consistent quality standards.
Preferred Requirements:
· National Certification preferred
