Job Description

We are seeking an energetic and driven Freight & Logistics Manager to lead the logistics strategy for our Sawmill Division. The successful candidate will oversee a logistics budget of approximately $140 million, manage a team of two, and work closely with our Sales group to ensure exceptional customer service and efficient delivery performance.

In this key role, you will negotiate freight rates with both small and large transportation partners—across truck, offshore shipping and rail—and support the development of shipping strategies for products destined to the North American and overseas markets. You will play a pivotal part in ensuring our customers receive the right product, at the right time, with best-in-class service.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Sawmill Division’s freight and logistics strategy, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives and customer expectations.
  • Manage and coach a team of two logistics professionals.
  • Oversee an annual freight budget of approximately $140M.
  • Negotiate freight rates and service agreements with a variety of truck, offshore shipping and rail carriers, from regional partners to large national operators.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sales team to support customer commitments and optimize delivery performance.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective shipping strategies for export markets.
  • Monitor freight market conditions and recommend adjustments to ensure competitiveness and service reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement in logistics processes, service levels, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business or Engineering would be considered an asset.
  • Proven experience in freight operations, transportation management, or logistics coordination.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills, with experience dealing with transportation carriers (truck and rail).
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Energetic, proactive, and highly organized, with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Experience in manufacturing, forestry, or industrial sectors is an asset but not required.
