DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of patient care, coordination of nursing staff and resources on all shifts, facilitating patient flow, maintaining data accountability and acting as a steward for developing and facilitating the family-centered care approach with the Women & Children's program. This position will be focused in the obstetrical department but will include some cross-unit coverage.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Current B.C.L.S.;
  • Recent & related Charge Nurse Experience required (must be within the last 2-3 years);
  • Proven experience with staff scheduling (ONA and CUPE), patient flow and patient assignments;
  • Successful completion of a post-graduate Paediatric and/or Perinatal Nursing program; preferred
  • Proven knowledge of paediatric pathophysiology, especially related to medically complex child and developmental needs of children age newborn-18 years old;
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the Women & Children's Healthcare program, required
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Labour and Delivery within the last 3 years, required;
  • Current FHS certification, required
  • Current NRP certification, required;
  • PALS certification, preferred;
  • Proven skills in advanced fetal monitoring, current neonatal resuscitation certification, competency in epidural/spinal pain management and induction/augmentation of labour with oxytocin required;
  • Experience in the scrub and circulating role for Caesarean births or enrolled in a Perioperative nursing course, required;
  • Understanding and compliance with ORNAC standards
  • Demonstrated leadership, teaching and mentorship skills;
  • Leadership development courses (i.e. Leading Edge, Crucial Conversations), preferred
  • Quality improvement initiation/ project management experience, preferred
  • Effective organizational; planning; prioritization and time management skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal with multiple competing demands with ability to maintain composure in stressful situations;
  • Demonstrated problem solving; critical thinking and decision making skills;
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills that enables you to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
  • Proven ability to work well independently;
  • Ability to advocate for quality based patient outcomes within an interdisciplinary team environment;

  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
  • Demonstrated understanding of and, commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety program and practices including staff, patient, and environmental safety and participation in regular in-service education sessions;
  • B.Sc.N, preferred;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and the Ontario Nurses Association (RN Bargaining Unit Local 051).
