On-site in Ottawa, ON — 6-month contract with potential to become permanent

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Accounting, the Accounting Clerk will be primarily responsible for providing support in all areas of the Finance department; the initial responsibilities will have a particular focus on the Accounts Payable function.

Responsibilities

  • Match packing lists to supplier invoices; ensure accuracy and validity of all supplier invoices
  • Communicate with vendors and internal personnel where necessary to gather required transaction details
  • Reconcile vendor information as posted to inventory management system on a timely basis
  • Prepare invoices for cheque payments and electronic funds transfers (EFT)
  • Allocate expenses to accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoice/expense reports
  • Reconcile and record credit card transactions
  • Verify vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
  • Assist with Accounts Receivable (AR) function, and become familiar with all areas of AR function in order to be able to cover that role as required
  • Other Finance-related duties, including reconciliations and filing

Qualifications

  • A diploma or degree in Accounting (preferred)
  • 1+ years accounts payables experience, working in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Experience with QuickBooks accounting software would be a definite asset
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Effective communication skills (English), both verbal and written
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
