Manager, Financial Services – Burnaby School District
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Manager of Financial Services is responsible for overseeing the District’s day-to-day Accounting operations and financial reporting. The Manager will also lead business planning activities including new initiatives or projects related to Financial Services, as required.

The Burnaby School District is the fourth largest in BC. The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. Major Responsibilities
- Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and department activities including accounts payable, accounts receivables, treasury, month end processes, account reconciliations and analysis and various statutory reporting and filings
- Ensuring effective and efficient processes and procedures are implemented for providing proper internal controls in safeguarding the District’s assets
- Provide support to both District and School level staff in addressing accounting related matters and inquiries
- Coordinate and oversee internal audit engagements and prepare working papers and financial statements for the year end audit
- Prepare internal financial reports for management and external regulatory financial submissions for the Ministry of Education and Childcare
- Provide training, assistance and technical support to users of both the District’s financial reporting systems as well as the school-based accounting systems.
- Responsible for managing, coaching, mentoring and developing team members
- Performs other related duties as requested
Education, Experience and Skills
- Graduated from a Post-Secondary business and/or recognized accounting program
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) with demonstrated knowledge with Public Sector Accounting Standards
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance with at least 3 years of supervisory experience, preferably within a large public sector organization
- Knowledge and experience in working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial systems and proficient in using MS Office 365 suite of programs
- Skilled at working with large sets of data using Excel and other reporting tools to perform data analysis
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to collaborate, build effective teams and communicate effectively at all levels
- Experience in a school district or another unionized public sector environment would be an asset
Compensation
Comprehensive total compensation package includes a base salary in the range of $102,001 - $127,501 depending on experience, a generous benefits package and participation in a pension plan.

Location
This position is an on-site position at their Burnaby office on 4054 Norfolk St., Burnaby with the opportunity to work two days from home upon completion of probationary period.
