Job Title: Billing Representative

Department: Operations

Reports To: Billing Manager, Underwriting Business Management,

The Billing Representative plays a crucial role in supporting underwriters, brokers, and customers by responding to billing inquiries and performing billing transactions. This ensures efficiency, accuracy, and excellent customer service. This position focuses on first-line resolution of billing inquiries but also supports continuous improvement of billing processes. The role requires strong customer service, solutioning, and negotiation skills.

What you will do

  • Serve as the primary point of contact across all lines of business to assist with billing inquiries in a clear and timely manner
  • Educate brokers and customers regarding billing processes
  • Skills are based on complete knowledge of billing processes
  • Inquiries are via phone queues and electronic means (emails, chat)
  • Perform billing tasks which include, but are not limited to:
  • System Activities
  • Payments
  • Banking information and withdrawal date changes
  • Changes to payment schedules
  • Changes to payment plans
  • Transfer or move payments
  • Changes to refunds
  • Reject processing
  • Commission adjustments
  • Collections efforts
  • Complete credit transactions or other transactions as required, i.e. for a project or initiative
  • Support the goal of ensuring that all billing activities are compliant with regulatory standards and company policies including but not limited to Payments Canada, Fair Treatment of Customers, FSRA, Insurance Act, Provincial Tax regulations, by alerting the BUCO of any gaps in the billing compliance framework
  • Support documentation efforts to ensure all training materials and system documentation is accurate and complete, by identifying gaps and corrections
  • Support co-workers by helping to identify trends and methods to improve efficiency and customer service excellence

Qualifications

  • College or University education required
  • Up to 1 year of relevant work experience
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Prior Insurance or billing knowledge
  • Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office programs and excel
  • Proficiency with Guidewire is an asset
