The Calian Nuclear team provides a comprehensive range of services covering the entire nuclear lifecycle. This includes Safety Analysis, Licensing, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Protection, Decommissioning, Waste management, and cutting-edge Systems Engineering and Robotics.
Position Overview
Calian Nuclear is looking to hire a Software Development Intern with a computer engineering or computer science background to support with the maintenance and development of its proprietary software, Calian ResponseReady. This individual will work alongside both technical and non-technical teams to define and build new features and capabilities within the software and support the development of non-technical components of the software including promotional materials, software roadmaps, and other administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate software requirements and create innovative functionalities;
- Develop, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and dependable code;
- Optimize applications for performance, quality, and responsiveness;
- Identify and resolve performance, usability and scalability issues;
- Document application changes and development updates;
- Develop product-related information packages, brochures, and other technical documents; and
- Act as a resource to the Senior Director, Product Manager, and Project Managers in support of developing business opportunities and proposals.
Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in a University Degree program within a relevant discipline
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Proficiency in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS;
- Experience with React ecosystem and frameworks such as Next.js;
- Experience with Node.js ecosystem and frameworks such as Express.js;
- Ability to build modern, clean, and responsive user interfaces, and knowledge of best practices in UI design;
- Familiarity with REST APIs and back-end services;
- Ability to understand and write technical documentation; and
- Must be eligible for a reliability-level government security clearance.
Assets:
- Experience with building iOS and Android applications using React Native;
- Experience with large language models (GPT) and APIs such as OpenAI Platform;
- Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL) and ORM libraries (Prisma.js);
- Experience with cloud-based services and platforms (AWS);
- Understanding of version control systems (Git) and platforms (GitLab);
- Familiarity with PHP-based applications and frameworks (CodeIgniter, Wordpress);
- Experience and proficiency in writing technical documents; and
- Ability to think independently and provide insight and solutions to complex problems.
Job Start/End Dates: May 1st, 2026 – September 1st, 2027 (16-months)
