As a PSO, you will be a first responder to critical events within a team environment, while managing your time and setting priorities. You will be covering for Core PSOs, Community and Rural mobile CPOS. Documentation and reporting are a key part of this role. You will utilize the Perspective system to prepare detailed, written documentation of all security and life safety incidents. This position requires a high degree of critical thinking, sound judgement, discretion, and de-escalation techniques. Sound working knowledge of legislation, policy and legal authorities are a necessary skill for the PSO.

Description:

As a Protective Services Officer II, you will provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff and AHS property including: violence monitoring, prevention and intervention; enforcement of applicable federal, provincial and municipal statutes; asset loss prevention and internal investigations; preparation of court documents and securing evidence; risk assessment and hazard identification; arrests, apprehensions and detentions of persons and first responder to critical events. You will provide support for facility departments on matters of security and safety practices, participates in reviewing and recommending policy, and fosters and maintains positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public, as identified by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6 weeks program). Valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's Licence. Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minute, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.

Additional Required Qualifications:

To be eligible for an interview, you will require proof of PARE test booking on or before January 15, 2026. The PARE test must also be successfully completed within 6 months prior to the start of the CPOIP class on Feb 9, 2026. The candidate must submit that they have a class 5 non GDL drivers' license with less than 4 demerits and no criminal convictions, plus also submit that they have a valid Current First Aid and CPR Level C - AED certification. Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer two years’ post-secondary education in Security, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice. Preference will be given for two years. security/law enforcement experience. CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention training and Pressure Point Control Tactic Certificates are also assets. Experience within a healthcare setting an asset.
