Department Description

Facilities Management - University Hospital & Victoria Hospital

Reporting to the Coordinator Facilities Management, the steamfitter is responsible for the safe and adequate distribution of the steam and other process piping systems. This encompasses the installation, maintenance, repair and monitoring of each system and associated equipment.

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Rate of Pay: $37.10/hour - $37.77/hour

Note: In accordance with the Letter of Understanding between LHSC and Unifor Local 27, this role is is entitled to a market rate adjustment of $7.00 per hour for all hours worked, and is in addition to the applicable starting rate for the successful candidate. The need for market rate adjustments will be reviewed on an annual basis and may be subject to change,

Qualifications

  • Current Provincial or Interprovincial Steamfitter?s Certificate of Qualification
  • Certificate of Qualification for Gas fitter II preferred
  • Minimum 4 years mechanical and/or industrial steamfitting experience, preferably within an institutional environment
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain sterilizers and other pressure vessels
  • Demonstrated experience with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of steam and process piping systems and equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to install, maintain and repair heating distribution systems and equipment such as, steam traps, expansion joints, PRV?s, converters, heat exchangers condensate receivers and pumps
  • Demonstrated a working knowledge of control systems and Building Automation Systems
  • Proficient at welding and soldering
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as pits and tunnels
  • Familiar with Pressure Vessels Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, current Asbestos and Confined Space regulations, WHMIS
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a current awareness of technological advances and be familiar with drawings and specifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to interact positively and effectively with patients, public and staff
  • Self-starter, conscientious, motivated with a willingness to learn, and take on additional responsibilities
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving & troubleshooting skills
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose, and Values
