Operational Management:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the data center, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all critical systems and processes.
- Manage and maintain all critical infrastructure, including power, cooling, and network systems with the data center space.
- Collaborate with Harbour Centre Operations Facility Management Team on preventative maintenance programs of critical equipment.
- Monitor and analyze data center performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards and regulations (ex. SOC 2 Type II).
- Manage and track all maintenance activities, including preventative maintenance and repairs.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for maintenance and repair services.
- Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Perform audits of colocation and MMR facilities.
- Oversee accuracy of all electrical panel schedules and single-line updates.
- Collaborate with Harbour Center Operations to manage MMRs and common area building pathways such as entrances, cable risers, cable transition points and riser closets.
- Manage capacity planning and ensure sufficient resources are available to meet customer demands.
- Manage and maintain accurate documentation of all data center systems and processes.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required to support operations of the business.
- Work with a small team of data center technicians and administrators, providing guidance, training, and support.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Schedule and manage staff to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Ensure team members are properly trained on all data center systems and procedures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding data center operations.
- Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain strong relationships with key customer contacts.
- Coordinate with Business Development to support customer acquisition and retention.
- Collaborate on sales engineering and design for new colocation prospects, existing tenant expansions and modifications.
- Oversee technician implementation and assignments of new customer racks, cabinets, cages, panels, and conduits. Coordinate installation of power and data cables for customer environments.
- Oversee technician installation and decommissioning of customer equipment.
- Develop remote hands scope of services & implement.
- Implement and enforce security protocols to protect the data center from unauthorized access.
- Manage physical security measures, including access control systems and surveillance cameras.
- Conduct regular security audits and assessments.
- Respond to security incidents and breaches.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant security regulations and standards (SOC 2, ISO 27001).
- Oversee visitor access and security procedures.
- Prepare regular reports on data center performance, including uptime, power usage, and cooling efficiency.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all data center systems and processes.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop and maintain data center policies and procedures
- Assist in the development and management of the data center operations budget. Contribute to forecasting and expense tracking
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or relevant work experience and certification (309A, 313A, DCCA, UTI, ITIL).
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in data center environment.
- Experience managing end to end DC infrastructure (physical infrastructure and facilities).
- Experience with performing fiber audits
- Experience working with Building Management system (BMS) and Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM).
- Experience in colocation data center environments is highly preferred
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure and operations.
- Proficiency in managing critical infrastructure systems (e.g., UPS, generators, HVAC).
- Proficiency with network devices such as routers, switches and firewalls.
- Knowledge of networking protocols and technologies.
- Familiarity with security protocols and compliance standards.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Understanding of data center monitoring and management tools.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a data center environment with moderate noise levels.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work respond to emergencies as needed.
- This position may require working in a data center environment, which may be noisy and have varying temperatures.
- The position may require working outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, to respond to emergencies or perform maintenance.
- The role requires the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
