Job Responsibilities
This position, reporting through the Supervisor of Surveys and Construction. Duties include:
- Operate survey equipment (robotic and conventional total station, data collectors, GPS equipment and download software).
- Assist Survey Party Chief in downloading field data and with other various surveying projects.
- Addressing inquiries and complaints from the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ensuring Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Safety Regulations and Temporary Traffic Control (Book 7) requirements are being met on all project sites.
- Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions demanding regular physical exertion and visual concentration.
- Assisting with construction layout and collection of survey data required for base construction and boundary survey plans with only moderate supervision.
- Contacting and coordinating with utility agencies for infrastructure records and request field locates of underground utilities.
- Research aerial and underground utilities and field locate utility infrastructure for pre-engineering projects.
- Operating a Town vehicle and perform a daily vehicle check.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3 year college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
- Eligible for certification through the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) as a Civil Technologist (C.E.T.) or Civil Technician (C. Tech)
- Applicants must be familiar with survey principals. Experienced with the operation of current survey equipment including total stations, data collectors and downloading software.
- A sound knowledge of basic mathematics, trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry and radial survey methods is essential.
- Must be able to interpret and understand Engineering Construction drawings
- Must be knowledgeable and familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and MTO Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Temporary Traffic Control (Book 7).
- Knowledgeable and proficient with PC based computer applications, specifically Excel, Word, MS Project Management, Carlson Survey and AutoCAD.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to represent the Department in a professional and courteous manner in dealings with contractors, consultants, and the public.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
