President & Chief Executive Officer at Prince Rupert Port Authority
Date: 5 hours ago
City: Prince Rupert, BC
Contract type: Full time
The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is seeking a dynamic and visionary President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead one of Canada’s most strategic and fastest-growing trade gateways.
As a federally mandated agency established under the Canada Marine Act (1998), PRPA oversees the operation and development of the Port of Prince Rupert—Canada’s northernmost west-coast port and one of North America’s deepest, natural, ice-free harbours. With the shortest marine route between North America and Asia and seamless access to the continental rail network, the Port plays a vital role in supporting Canadian exporters, importers, and the broader national economy.
PRPA has earned a reputation as one of the country’s most dynamic port authorities. In 2024, the organization generated CA$74.58 million in revenue and CA$29.74 million in net income, and manages more than CA$587 million in total assets. The Port’s diversified operations—including container, bulk, liquid, and cruise—support over $60 billion in annual trade and more than 5,000 direct and indirect jobs across northern British Columbia. Major tenants and partners include DP World Canada, Prince Rupert Grain, AltaGas (RIPET), Westview, Trigon Pacific, and the Northland Cruise Terminal.
PRPA is committed to sustainable growth and meaningful Indigenous partnership. The organization works closely with local Nations to advance economic participation, environmental stewardship, and community well-being. Guided by its commitment to become a net-zero port by 2050, PRPA continues to balance economic expansion with environmental stewardship and community well-being.
The Port is now entering the largest expansion phase in its history, with more than $3 billion in capital investment underway. Major projects—including the CANXPORT containerization hub, the South Kaien Import Logistics Park, and the Ridley Island Energy Export Facility—are transforming the gateway’s capacity, efficiency, and resilience.
The Opportunity
With the retirement of the incumbent CEO, PRPA is launching a comprehensive search for its next leader. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for setting the organization’s strategic direction, fostering strong stakeholder relationships, overseeing safe and efficient operations, and ensuring the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the Port.
The successful candidate will be a seasoned executive with demonstrated leadership maturity, experience in complex operational environments, and the ability to collaborate effectively with Indigenous communities, industry partners, government, and employees. As the primary ambassador of the Port, the CEO will champion PRPA’s mission, values, and vision to build a better Canada by growing trade.
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a world-class trade gateway and lead an organization poised for transformational growth.
